Thumbay Hospital, Fujairah Conducted a series of Health Awareness Campaigns

On the World Diabetes Day, Thumbay Hospital, Fujairah Conducted a series of Health Awareness Campaigns. A Free Medical Camp was conducted on 11th November in association with St Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church, Fujairah to create awareness among the general public.

More than 125 people benefitted from the Free Campaign which included the Free Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and BMI evaluation, Vision checkup for all.

This was continued by a Free RBS Checkup & Dietitian Consultation on 14th of November held inside the premises of our Hospital. Those who were having high RBS levels were offered the cost effective Diabetes Package checkup as an initiative to combat the prevalence of diabetes in Fujairah and other parts of UAE.

The camp witnessed great turnouts and visitors from different nationalities particularly UAE, Oman, Philippines, India, Pakistan etc.

A Human Chain was formed by the Hospital staff outside the premises of the Hospital to signify the importance of healthy lifestyle for enhancing the quality of life and better future.

Dr. Mohammed Faisal Pervez, Chief Operating Officer, while pointing out the benefits of the awareness campaign, mentioned that such CSR initiatives will be continued with the support of management of Thumbay Hospitals.

Thumbay Hospital – Ajman, the leading academic hospital owned by Thumbay Group’s healthcare division, launched a diabetes awareness campaign “Count Your Steps – To Beat Diabetes,” on Sunday, 13th November 2016. Organized to mark ‘World Diabetes Day,’ the campaign was supported by UAE Ministry of Health & Prevention, Municipality & Planning Department – Ajman and Ajman Police.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group inaugurated the event in the presence of H.E. Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi, Director Ajman Medical District, Ministry of Health – UAE, as well as officials from Municipality & Planning Department – Ajman and Ajman Police.

Dr. Manvir Singh Walia, Director – Operations of Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division, Dr. Prashanth Hegde – Medical Director and Dr. Gurjit Singh Monga – Chief Operating Officer of Thumbay Hospital, Ajman were also present.

The event was marked by a walkathon by school children, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in keeping diabetes at bay. Students from eight schools in Ajman participated in the walkathon. “Through this program, we aim to create awareness that one positive step towards a healthier lifestyle can make a big difference in your life. Diabetes is a lifestyle-related illness, and is catching pace in the region. We need to work towards finding ways to keep ourselves active, for a healthier future,” said Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay.

Thumbay Hospital also organized free health checkup for participants, as part of the event. Many participants availed the free blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI tests, and sought advice on healthy lifestyle. The program ended with the distribution of mementos for the supporting organizations and participant institutions.

Thumbay Clinic – Ras Al Khaimah, part of the network of state-of-the-art family clinics operated by the healthcare division of Thumbay Group, conducted a Pediatric camp at Little Dream Nursery, RAK, on 13th November 2016.

Around 65 kids of Little Dream Nursery availed the free screening by expert pediatrician. Also, an interactive session was held with kids mother from our pediatrician about their child.

Free medical services offered at the camp included consultation with the dental expert, blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI tests etc.

Thumbay Medical & Dental Specialty Centre Sharjah has been conducting such health camp as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility at various locations in Sharjah, to raise health awareness among the public. Diplomatic Ladies Visit Thumbay Hospital Dubai to Support Diabetes Awareness Campaign

A delegation from the Diplomatic Ladies Group visited Thumbay Hospital – Dubai on Monday, 7th November 2016, to support the hospital’s diabetes awareness program ‘Count your steps – to beat diabetes.’ The nine-member delegation was led by Abeer Shocair, wife of the Jordanian Consul General and President of Diplomatic Ladies Group, Dubai.

The delegation was received at the hospital by Dr. Sameer Kumar, Assistant Administrative Director of Thumbay Dental Hospital, Dubai. The delegation toured the hospital’s facilities. They commended Thumbay Hospital’s health awareness initiatives and expressed support for the ‘Count your steps – to beat diabetes’ campaign launched at the hospital. The visiting delegates were presented with mementos as a token of appreciation of their support to the campaign.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group said that the campaign was being conducted with the aim of spreading awareness about the importance of physical activity to prevent diabetes. The program aims to encourage the participants to make ‘every step count’, by finding ways to keep themselves active, for a healthier future.

CASH (GMU) conducted “Cardiology Symposium” accredited by UK Federation of RCPs CPD scheme

Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH), Gulf Medical University (GMU) hosted “Cardiology Symposium” dually accredited by UK Federation of RCPs CPD scheme for 6 CPD credits and Ministry of Health and Prevention for 5.5 CME hours on 9th November 2016 from 1:00 PM- 9:00 PM at the Ajman Campus.

The symposium was coordinated by Dr. Ehab M. Esheiba, RCPE coordinator and Head of Cardiology Department, Thumbay Hospital Ajman.  22 delegates attended the symposium and benefited from 6 sessions including lectures, workshops, and live interactive discussions. The symposium elaborated on management of cardiovascular diseases in patients with multiple co-morbidities and covered updates on new guidelines on ACS, heart failure and dyslipidemia management. Hot topics included key issues in the management of complex patients with aortic stenosis, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, adult congenital heart disease and challenges in the management of patients with stable angina.

The event was highly appreciated by the attending delegates.

Thumbay Hospital Signs MoU with Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services

Thumbay Hospital, the largest network of private academic hospitals in the region owned by Thumbay Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), for cooperation in delivering excellent services and to ensure better health & safety for community members in Dubai.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group and H.E. Khalifa Hassan Aldrai, Executive Director of DCAS, on Wednesday, 9th November 2016.

According to the MoU, all Thumbay Hospitals will offer complete assistance to the ambulance personnel of DCAS, to ensure that patients get the best possible treatment. The MoU also enables Thumbay Hospitals and DCAS to share medical equipment, medicines, and expertise. The two sides will also be collaborating for conducting exhibitions, conferences and awareness programs.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay said that the cooperation between Thumbay Hospitals and DCAS would simplify the receiving and shifting of critical patients. “This would also ensure timely and effective treatment to the patients,” he added.

Mr. Nazeer Hussain, Director of Finance & Budget – Thumbay Group, won the prestigious ‘Revolutionary CFO of the Year’ award for the private sector, for the second consecutive year at the MENA CFO Awards ceremony held at Sofitel The Palm, Dubai on 7th November 2016. Mr. Hussain, who is also a member of the ‘Thumbay Group Board’ which implements the group’s strategic plans, received the award at a special ceremony organized on the second and final day of the 10th CFO Strategies Forum MENA.

The CFO Strategies Forum commended Mr. Hussain for playing an integral role in maintaining a balance between protecting the company’s assets while promoting a culture of innovation, risk taking and flexibility in order to prepare for fast-growing emerging markets.

Gulf Medical University’s 8th Annual Scientific Meeting Discusses Trends in Medical Innovation and Translation Research

8th Annual Scientific Meeting

The 8th Annual Scientific Meeting of Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman concluded at the university campus on 8th November 2016, marking the end of the two-day event to discuss and deliberate on the research studies conducted in the university over the past year. This year, there were a total of 34 paper presentations, including 13 posters, covering observational and experimental studies conducted in multiple settings, the hospital, community and the laboratory.

The theme of the 8th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) was “Medical Innovation and Translation Research: Vision 2020.” There were 20 presentations on biomedical sciences and clinical practice, 8 on dental sciences and practice, and 2 each in pharmaceutical sciences and clinical pharmacy, physiotherapy sciences and clinical practice and health professions education. All the presentations are being published as full papers in the supplementary issue of the Gulf Medical Journal.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost of GMU said that the aim of organizing ASM was to foster greater collaboration between the different medical and health sciences faculties, to nurture interdisciplinary research. “I sincerely hope these research studies will serve as a nidus for greater innovation and translation research in the future, with the establishment of the Innovation Center in our university early next year,” she added.

Dr. P. K. Menon, Director of GMU’s Center for Advanced Biomedical Research and Innovation (CABRI) explained the theme, format and objectives of the Annual Scientific Meeting, in his speech at the opening ceremony. He gave a detailed presentation on the upcoming Innovation Center of GMU, outlining its scope and opportunities. “By setting up the Innovation center, we aim to bring the best of technology and innovation and combine them with GMU’s teaching practices, so that our students stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field,” he explained.

Every year, GMU sets aside two full days to present the research studies conducted in the university and provide the university community an opportunity to attend the presentations in large numbers, hear the discussions and benefit from the new knowledge that has been generated. This year’s ASM had 18 student presentations and 16 faculty presentations. Mementos and certificates were awarded to faculty members and students for the oral and poster presentations.
