HEALTH Magazine’s First Issue of the New Year Released at Arab Health Exhibition

The first issue of HEALTH Magazine for 2016 was released at the Arab Health Exhibition by Mr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder President of Thumbay Group on Thursday, 28th January 2016. The magazine-launch was held at the Thumbay Group Pavilion at the exhibition, in the presence of Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice-President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group.

HEALTH magazine, which is a bimonthly, bilingual (English, Arabic) publication, is a leading health and lifestyle magazine owned by Thumbay Group – UAE. It covers a variety of topics such as health, lifestyle, wellness, fitness, beauty, family, parenting, diet, nutrition, luxury and fashion.

Launched in 1999, HEALTH now boasts of a circulation of 20,000 copies in print, with a readership of around 80,000. It is has already applied for BPA audit. Its distribution and coverage area is spread across the UAE in leading retail outlets, major airports in the GCC region, as well as leading medical institutions and upscale clinics, in addition to pharma companies worldwide.

HEALTH Magazine has a significant online and social media presence. Its dynamic website receives around 20,000 hits per month, and its Facebook page is followed by close to 17,000 readers. HEALTH Magazine’s mobile app is available on the android app store, and has already been downloaded by a number of users.

HEALTH Magazine’s endeavors to inspire health and wellness also extends to organizing regular events, two of the recent ones in Dubai being ‘Conceiving to Healthy Baby’ and ‘Child & Parenting’, which saw the participation of large crowds, especially women and families from across the UAE. The magazine is all set to launch its own Doctors’ Awards by April 2016.

High-Level German Delegation Visits Gulf Medical University

A high-level German delegation led by H.E. Elke Badde, Undersecretary of Health and Consumer Protection of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg visited Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical university owned by Thumbay Group, on Tuesday, 26th January 2016.

The delegation was accorded a warm welcome at GMU, by Mr. Thumbay Moideen – Founder President and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Gulf Medical University, Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay – Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group and the members of the administrative team of Thumbay Group. The visiting delegation also included Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Schmidt Trenz, CEO of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, and representatives of Hamburg’s healthcare companies and service providers.

The delegation attended a presentation outlining GMU’s achievements, its emphasis on research-based learning, its topnotch facilities and curriculum and the diversity of its people. They also toured GMU and its facilities including the Center for Advanced Biomedical Research & Innovation (CABRI) and Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH), and interacted with the faculty and senior personnel.

The delegation expressed their appreciation of GMU’s facilities and said that they were highly impressed with Thumbay Group’s extensive business portfolio and future projects. Mr. Thumbay Moideen thanked the delegation for their visit.

Thumbay Marketing & Distribution Company (TMDC), the marketing and distribution company owned and operated by Thumbay Group signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the renowned Germany-based Dr. Brill + Dr. Seinmann GmbH Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology. According to the MoU, TMDC would represent the Infection Control Accreditation Program (ICAP) of Dr. Brill + Dr. Seinmann GmbH Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology, in the MENA region.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, on behalf of TMDC and Dr. Florian H. H. Brill, Owner and Managing Director of Dr. Brill + Dr. Seinmann GmbH Institute.

The MoU was signed in the presence of H.E. Elke Badde – Undersecretary of Health and Consumer Protection of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Dr. Hans-Joerg Schmidt Trenz – CEO of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce as well as representatives of healthcare companies and service providers from Hamburg.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay said, “TMDC is happy to represent Dr. Brill’s ICAP program in the MENA region. We are glad that H.E. Elke Badde was here to witness this landmark partnership. We hope that this new association would embark on many more mutually beneficial ventures, in the future.”

The Ajman branch of Thumbay Clinic and GMC Hospital Ajman jointly organized a free medical camp for the staff of Our Own English High School (OOEHS-Boys) in Sharjah on Monday, 25th January 2016.
The camp, held at OOEHS-Boys provided free checkups of blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI, as well as free consultation with General Practitioner and Dentist, to the staff of the school. Over 120 people benefited from the camp.
The school management thanked Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division for organizing the camp, and lauded the Group’s efforts in promoting health awareness and easy access to quality healthcare.

Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division expanded its network of affordable family clinics with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Thumbay Clinic, along with an outlet of Thumbay Pharmacy at Ras Al Khaimah. The Group also plans to add one more Thumbay Clinic as well as several outlets of Thumbay Pharmacy, in Ras Al Khaimah.

The new clinic and pharmacy were inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone Authority, in the presence of Thumbay Group Founder President Mr. Thumbay Moideen, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay and members of the administrative team of Thumbay Group on Sunday, 24th January 2016. 

The newly opened clinic, complete with laboratory services, is the latest addition to Thumbay Group’s growing number of healthcare services, focusing primarily on personalized services, convenience and affordability. The clinic has various departments including Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, General Medicine, Radiology and laboratory services. Thumbay Hospital – Fujairah, in continuation of its endeavors to create a health awareness among the community, organized a Free Health Check Camp at Concorde Hotel, Fujairah on Tuesday, 19th January, 2016.

The camp offered free blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI checks. More than 50 employees of the hotel attended the camp.
The authorities of Concord Hotel thanked the management of Thumbay Hospital, and appreciated their efforts to spread health awareness.

GMC Hospital Ajman, the leading academic hospital owned and operated by Thumbay Group conducted a ‘Rewards & Recognition Performance Awards’ function on Monday, 18th January 2016 to appreciate outstanding staff members.

Mr. Thumbay Moideen – Founder President of Thumbay Group was the chief guest of the function. Prof. Gita Ashok Raj – Provost of Gulf Medical University, Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay – Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, Dr. Manvir Singh Walia, Administrative Director – Operations, Healthcare Division and members of the administrative team of GMC Hospital were present at the function.

The function honoured doctors, nurses, and staff from administration, paramedical and maintenance wings across 25 departments, who had demonstrated exemplary performances during the past year. Mr. Thumbay Moideen presented the awards to the team members of GMC Hospital, Ajman.

A total of 58 Awards were distributed, which included 5 team awards (for results through teamwork). Award categories included Star Special Thanks, Always Accountable, Will to Win, Passion for Customers, Best SME, Key Contributor Award, Results Through Teamwork, Rising Star (for new employees) and Best Employee of the Quarter.

 

GMU Professor Attends Asian American Academic Conference

Prof. Tatiana Ille, Professor of Biostatistics, Head of the Department of General Education at Gulf Medical University, Ajman participated in the Asian American Academic Conference held in Singapore during 12-15 January 2016. The conference
topic was “Contemporary Trends in Education.”

Prof. Tatiana who was the only representative from the UAE at the conference, did an e-poster presentation on the topic ‘Teaching non-medical subjects to medical doctors at GMU’, before 68 academics from 18 different countries who attended the conference and presented their work.

The conference was organized by the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore,along with the internationally renowned National University of Singapore. Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is a young and research-intensive university which was ranked 11th in the Asia University Rankings of 2013. It has 32,500 students and 4000+ faculty and researchers from over 100 nationalities.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology – GMC Hospital, Ajman in association with Gulf Medical University held a Conference on Recent Advances in Women’s Health on 21st Jan 2016 at the University campus. The event was accredited by the Ministry of Health for 8 CME hours and more than 125 Doctors and Healthcare Professionals attended the conference.

Prof. Gita Ashok Raj – the Provost of Gulf Medical University was the chief guest during the presentation ceremony. She honored the invited speakers with special mementos.

Leading gynecologists from the country shared their experience and delivered talks during the conference. Some of the topics covered were,

GMU Conducts ‘White Coat Ceremony’ to Welcome New Batch of Dentistry Students

Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical university owned and operated by Thumbay Group formally welcomed the 2015 batch students of the College of Dentistry’s DMD Course by organizing a “White Coat Ceremony” at the University campus in Ajman, on Thursday, 21st January 2016.

Mr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Gulf Medical University was the chief guest of the function. The function was attended by GMU Provost Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, the Deans of Colleges of GMU and the members of the administrative team of Gulf Medical University and Thumbay Group.

The students received their white coats from Mr. Thumbay Moideen. Prof. Gita Ashok Raj administered the GMU Honor Code to the news students.

Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, in her address to the students, reminded them of the importance of the ceremony and said that with it would start a whole new chapter in their lives. “Today’s ceremony marks a rite of passage to welcome you all as you are about to enter your chosen profession. The cloaking with the white coat, the mantle of the health profession signifies the belief that is being placed on your ability to carry on the noble tradition of delivering health care,” she told the students.

In all, 47 students belonging to 21 different nationalities donned the white coats at the ceremony. The function was held in the presence of a large gathering of GMU students, faculty and staff of GMU and families of the new students.
