Thumbay Hospital, Fujairah conducted a free health camp at the Ministry of Labour, Fujairah, on 18th November 2015. The camp was held to create health awareness among the public.

More than 100 people benefitted from the camp which included free blood sugar and blood pressure checks and BMI evaluation. Visitors at the camp with high RBS levels were offered the cost-effective Diabetes Package checkup, launched throughout Thumbay Hospitals in the UAE on the World Diabetes Day, as an initiative to combat the prevalence of diabetes in the UAE.

4th Annual Conference on New Horizons in Cardiology Held at Gulf Medical University


The Department of Cardiology at GMC Hospital, Ajman in association with Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical university in the region owned and operated by Thumbay Group, conducted the 4th Annual Conference on ‘New Horizons in Cardiology – From Guidelines to Clinical Practice’ at the University campus in Al Jurf, Ajman, on Friday, 13th November 2015, organized by the Health Communications Division of Thumbay Group.

The conference, which was accredited by the Ministry of Health for 7 CME hours was attended by a number of healthcare professionals. “Count Your Steps – To Beat Diabetes” Campaign Held at Thumbay Hospital Dubai

Thumbay Hospital – Dubai, the 150 bed ultra-modern private teaching hospital owned by Thumbay Group held a diabetes awareness campaign “Count Your Steps – To Beat Diabetes,” in association with NEXtCARE, at the hospital from 9 am to 9 pm on Saturday, 14th November 2015.

Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, Dr. Manvir Singh Walia, Administrative Director – Operations, Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, Dr. Aparna Kulkarni, Head of Insurance, NEXtCARE- Dubai and Mr. Tarique Anwar, Procurement Manager, NEXtCARE – Dubai were present at the campaign.

The campaign was conducted with the aim of creating awareness about the importance of physical activity in the prevention of diabetes. The campaign sought to encourage the participants to make “every step count” by finding ways to keep themselves active, for a healthier future.

As part of the campaign, patients were given free consultations with Internal Medicine Specialist, Eye Specialist, Dental Specialist and General Physicians. Patients also availed free diet advice by the hospital’s Dietician. Free pedometers (step counters) were also distributed to campaign attendees.

“Count Your Steps” danglers were displayed throughout Thumbay Hospital on the campaign day. Dignitaries and staff wore “Count Your Steps” badges to spread awareness on the prevalence of diabetes. More than 500 patients visited the hospital, during the campaign.

Huge Turnout Marks ‘Free Health Camp’ Organized by Thumbay Hospital and Bearys Cultural Forum


Large numbers of people attended the free health camp organized in Dubai by Thumbay Hospital in association with Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF), on Friday, 13 November 2015, from 2:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The camp, held at Thumbay Hospital next to Stadium Metro Station in Al Qusais provided free consultation and checkup with the consultants and specialists of the hospital in various specialties such as Cardiology, Internal Medicine, General Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Endocrinology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Dental, Ophthalmology, Pulmonology and Psychiatry.

The free medical camp started 2:30 pm, in the presence of Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, Dr. B. K. Yusuf, President of BCF and Mr. Abdul Latif Mulky, Chairman of BCF Health Camp Committee. Members of the administrative team of Thumbay Group and BCF office-bearers also attended the function.

In addition to free consultations and checkups, the camp also offered special discounts on total knee replacement package, maternity package, normal delivery package, LSCB package, antenatal package, mammography test, etc. Free blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI checkups and ECG tests were given to patients who were advised by the doctors. Moreover, people who registered for the ‘Privilege Card’ at the camp will be eligible for a 20% discount at all the clinics of Thumbay Group, for a one-year-period. Privilege Card holders will also be entitled to a special discount on Umrah vaccination, during the next one year.

Diabetes Awareness Camp at Thumbay(GMC) Hospital Fujairah

Thumbay (GMC) Hospital, Fujairah on the occasion of World Diabetes Day on 14th November, 2015 conducted in-house Awareness Campaign which covered a wide range of activities focused on educating the patients about the prevalence of the Diabetes.

The staff wearing blue shirts and blue wrist bands organized a human chain inside the Hospital premises to create awareness amongst the patients.

The Placards highlighting the facts about the diabetes and certain preventive measures were exhibited throughout the hospital premises and the Hospital was lit up in the evening with the blue lights on both sides of the main entrance.

Besides all, the cost effective Diabetes checkup packages were offered to all the diabetic patients and healthy population to check their diabetic status.

Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH) of GMU Conducts Workshop on Basic Surgical Skills

The Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH) at Gulf Medical University, Ajman hosted the Basic Surgical Skills Workshop on Saturday, 14th November 2015.

Professor Manda Venkatramana, Director of the Center and Dean, College of Medicine inaugurated the workshop and delivered the welcome address. He briefed the participants about the various activities conducted at the state-of-art Simulation Center including the AHA accredited Basic and Advanced Life Support courses. The Director further elaborated that the major beneficiary of this facility has been GMU students, as simulation-based learning has been seamlessly integrated into the curriculum of various programs. He added that simulation-based learning was considered one of the best practices in current day medical education.  He concluded by listing the objectives of the workshop and wished the delegates a great learning experience.

The highlights of the workshop were the small-group hands-on sessions on ‘Suturing and Knotting Techniques’ facilitated by Dr. Manda Venkatramana and ‘Universal Standard Precautions’ led by Ms. Sija Binoy, Nursing Skills Instructor.

The workshop provided an opportunity for the participants to get a one-to-one hands-on experience of basic surgical skills in a realistic, safe, error-forgiving and controlled environment. The course followed the current international guidelines for universal precautions, hand-washing, surgical scrubbing, operating theater protocol, knotting and suturing techniques. The workshop was accredited by the Ministry of Health, UAE for 7 CME hours.

Designed as a virtual hospital setting, CASH is a multidisciplinary educational facility that provides high-tech simulated set-up for clinical and communication skills teaching / learning and training for all health care professionals. CASH offers Training Programs to doctors, nurses, other health professionals and lay public as well.

The participants highly appreciated the conducive, reflective and encouraging environment of the sessions as reported in the post-workshop feedback. Dr. Manda Venkatramana awarded the certificates to the participants. He said that CASH had plans to conduct more such sessions in the future.

On World Diabetes Day, 14th of November 2015, Thumbay (GMC)  Hospital, Fujairah Conducted a Free Health Campaign in association with Lulu Mall, Fujairah to create awareness among the general public.

More than 250 people benefitted from the Free Campaign which included the Free Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure and BMI evaluation by our nursing staff. The camp witnessed great turnouts and visitors from different nationalities particularly UAE, Oman, Philippines, India, Pakistan etc.

Those who were having high RBS levels were offered the cost effective Diabetes Package checkup, launched throughout our Thumbay Hospitals in UAE on the World Diabetes Day as an initiative to combat the prevalence of diabetes in Fujairah and other parts of UAE.
