Thumbay Hospital Awarded Prestigious Medical Tourism Certification


Thumbay Group’s network of Thumbay/GMC hospitals in the UAE has been awarded by the prestigious ‘Medical Travel Quality Alliance,’ for excellence in medical tourism. The certificate, conferred after a review of the hospital’s facilities, remarked that the hospital meets “the international standard of excellence for care and services to international patients and medical travelers”.

The award was received by Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Director of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group and Dr. Benazir Ameer Ali, Director of Thumbay International Medical and Health Tourism Department, from Ms. Julie W. Monroe, President – Medical Travel Quality Alliance.

The award is the second major international recognition for Thumbay Group’s Medical Tourism initiatives, after ‘The New Economy’, one of the leading publications in the United Kingdom had recognized GMC (Thumbay) Hospital, Ajman, UAE as the Best Medical Tourism Provider in the Middle East, in 2013.

GMC Hospital Ajman Announces Special Maternity Package to Mark 13th Anniversary

GMC Hospital, the first JCI accredited hospital in Ajman has announced a specially discounted delivery package for pregnant women, to celebrate the completion of its 13th splendid year of service. Under this special package normal deliveries will cost as low as AED.4899, and caesarian sections will cost just AED.8399. Those desirous of availing the discount can do so by registering their names and paying a booking charge of AED.300 at a special camp which will be held at the hospital from 9 am to 9 pm on Saturday, 17th October 2015.

Gulf Medical University Observes Global Hand Washing Day

Gulf Medical University observed Global Hand Washing Day at its campus in Ajman, UAE on 8th October 2015. Deans, students, staff and administrative members of the university actively participated in the various activities held as part of the event.

Activities included talks on the importance of the proper way of hand washing, demonstration of hand washing with soap following step-by-step procedures and a host of other activities stressing the significance of following the right way of hand washing for preserving health and hygiene.

Global Hand Washing Day is an annual global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing with soap as an easy, effective, and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. Celebrated annually on October 15, Global Hand Washing Day was founded by the Global Public-Private Partnership for Hand Washing, and is an opportunity to design, test, and replicate creative ways to encourage people to wash their hands with soap at critical times.

Dr. Benazir Ameer Ali, the Director of Thumbay International Medical and Health Tourism Department spoke at International Medical Travel Exhibition and Conference (IMTEC) 2015, held at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on 7th and 8th October 2015.

Speaking on the topic “Innovative Practices in International Patient Care,” on the second day of the conference, Dr. Benazir said that currently, Thumbay Medical Tourism received enquiries from a wide range of clientele including hospitals, medical practitioners, partnered agents, and various enquiry forwarding websites from across the globe. “Understanding that medical tourists may come from numerous backgrounds, we constantly update to offer them personalised services and make them feel at home,” she said.

Dr. Benazir remarked that the fact that Thumbay/GMC Group of Hospitals’ have the experience handling patients from across 175 nationalities, with its staff drawn from over 22 nationalities and speaking more than 50 languages, as well as its excellent range of personal amenities and services for medical tourists had given it a definite edge as far as medical tourism was concerned. New Batch of Students Officially Initiated into the Healthcare Profession at Gulf Medical University


Gulf Medical University (GMU), the leading private medical university owned and operated by Thumbay Group formally opened its doors to new students of the academic year by initiating them into their respective medical courses at the “White Coat Ceremony 2015” held at the University campus in Ajman, on 7th October 2015.

Mr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President and Chairman of the Board of Governors of Gufl Medical University was the chief guest of the function. The function was attended by GMU Provost Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Director of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group, the Deans of Colleges and the members of the administrative team of Thumbay Group.

GMU Provost Prof. Gita Ashok Raj delivered the welcome address. She said that the White Coat Ceremony was being held every year to formally welcome the new students and to demonstrate GMU’s commitment to humanism and professionalism, to the students and to the medical community at large. She stressed the importance of the ceremony and said that with it would begin a whole new chapter in the lives of the students. “Believe in yourselves, follow your hearts and reach for the stars,” she exhorted the students.


Prof. Gita Ashok Raj administered the GMU Honour Code to the news students. In all, 189 students from 31 nationalities, belonging to GMU’s College of Medicine (MBBS and BBMS courses), College of Allied Health Sciences (BPT and BHS courses) and College of Pharmacy (Pharm D course) donned the white coats in this year’s ceremony. The function was held in the presence of a large gathering of GMU students, faculty and staff of GMU and families of the new students.

Thumbay Moideen Addresses Crowd of 6000 at “Vibrant Business Summit 2015” in Gandhinagar, Gujarat


Thumbay Group Founder President Thumbay Moideen addressed a massive gathering of 6000 people, at the “Vibrant Business Summit” held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, India, organized along the lines of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.

Thumbay Moideen, who was invited to speak at the “Business Role Model” session enthralled the crowd with his knowledge and experience, as he took them down the memory lane reliving his first steps as an entrepreneur, his inspiring journey against odds setting up a private medical college and hospital, the challenge of running a full-fledged private medical university as well as a chain of hospitals and clinics, and managing a range of businesses under Thumbay Group spanning 13 verticals.

He told the audience that Thumbay Group’s impressive growth over the years had encouraged him to take greater risks and venture into new areas. Taking risks was something he relished as a businessman, he said. He added that he was in the continuous process of learning from his experiences, and that he was keen on learning new lessons from each new venture he undertook.

As his speech drew to a close, his parting message to the audience was to ‘dream big to be big’. He summed up the key ingredients of a successful business as God’s Grace, the government’s support and a good team to back you up.
