More than 5000 visitors benefit from Free Mega Health Camp, 2013 organized by GMC Hospitals in Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah.

In continuation of human endeavor and to bring about health awareness to the people in the region, GMC Hospitals in Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah in association with Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Electric Way L.L.C., organized a free Mega Health Camp on Friday the 28th, 2013 from 09.00 am to 05.00 pm.More than 5000 visitors benefit from Free Mega Health Camp, 2013 organized by GMC Hospitals in Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah.

More than 5000 visitors attended the Free Mega Health Camps conducted in all the three GMC Hospitals at Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah.

The all-important event at GMC Hospital, Ajman was inaugurated and presided by Mr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group, U.A.E.More than 5000 visitors benefit from Free Mega Health Camp, 2013 organized by GMC Hospitals in Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah.

A special team of Specialist Doctors, Consultants, Nurses and volunteers conducted free consultations and checkups in  Cardiology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery,  Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT,  Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Family Medicine, Urology,  Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Dental to all the 3000 visitors who attended the Mega Health Camp at GMC Hospital, Ajman.  In addition to this, free Blood Pressure Checkup, Blood Sugar Checkup, HCV (Hepatitis C Virus), BMI Checkup was carried out on the visitors to create awareness about diabetes and hypertension which is one of the most worrisome health issue prevalent in this region. The visitors were also offered free medicines besides the 30% discount on Laboratory and Radiology (X-ray, CT, Ultrasound etc.) investigations.  Patients can avail the Follow-up check-ups for free in the next 15 days.  As part of the hospital promotion free hospital brochures, health packages, health magazines were distributed to all the patients and visitors.More than 5000 visitors benefit from Free Mega Health Camp, 2013 organized by GMC Hospitals in Ajman, Sharjah and Fujairah.

Forbes Middle East Announces and Honors Top 100 Indian Leaders in the UAE

GMU visited by Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.

A high profile delegation representing the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) led by Ms. Gloria O. Abumere, Registrar, and Mr. Augustine C. Ezeugwn, Head of Training visited the Gulf Medical University (GMU) to discuss accreditation of Pharm D program offered by Gulf Medical University which would pave way for the registration of GMU Pharm D students as pharmacist in Nigeria.GMU visited by Pharmacists Council of Nigeria. The visiting delegates were accorded a warm welcome by the Provost, Prof. Gita Ashok Raj and the Deans and Directors of respective academic units of GMU.GMU visited by Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.

A series of meetings were hosted between the visiting delegates and the GMU academic team. The delegates were presented details of the Pharm D program offered by GMU followed by a visit to the various departments and other physical facilities including the GMC Hospital in Ajman.  The visiting delegates were highly impressed with the global composition of the university community which is made up of an international faculty drawn from 22 countries and a student cohort from 67 countries including the high standards of education offered by the college of Pharmacy.GMU visited by Pharmacists Council of Nigeria.

College of Pharmacy at GMU hosts Seminar on Diabetes Complication – Prevention and Management

A Seminar on Diabetes Complication – Prevention and Management was organized by College of Pharmacy, a Constituent College of Gulf Medical University (GMU) on the 14th of June, 2013. The seminar accredited by the Ministry of Health for 6 CME hours was well attended by 200 doctors, pharmacists, and nurses from all emirates of UAE. This is the second seminar held by College of Pharmacy, GMU in association with Indian Pharmacists Welfare Council (IPWC). 

College of Pharmacy at GMU hosts Seminar on Diabetes Complication - Prevention and Management A series of lectures were delivered on different aspects focusing on diabetes care to minimize complications and maximize patient safety.

Dr. L.R.C. Reddy, Vascular Surgeon from Life Care Medical Centre, Sharjah, emphasized the role of Vascular Surgeon in diabetic foot. He clearly explained the recent advances in management and prevention of diabetic foot which could reduce serious complications like foot amputation.

College of Pharmacy at GMU hosts Seminar on Diabetes Complication - Prevention and Management lications by College of Pharmacy (2)Dr. Soundara Rajan, a leading Dermatologist described A to Z Muco-cutaneous complications associated with DM which can be prevented by taking timely measures. During his simple and educative talk he emphasized on what is needed by the clinicians and all healthcare providers dealing with such complications.

College of Pharmacy at GMU hosts Seminar on Diabetes Complication - Prevention and Management plications by College of Pharmacy (1)Dr. Sufian Otoum, from GMU discussed the recent strategies and advancements in Pharmacotherapeutic Management of Macro Vascular Diabetes complications to reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events. He updated the audience on approved drugs recommended by the guidelines for management of certain cardiac conditions.

College of Pharmacy at GMU hosts Seminar on Diabetes Complication - Prevention and Management Dr. Mukesh Kumar from Gulf Medical University highlighted the importance of preventing medication errors to improve patient safety in diabetic care. He stressed the need that all healthcare providers should play an active role to report medication errors.

Sam, Associate Dean, College of Pharmacy, GMU presented the commonly encountered drug interactions and resulting  adverse drug reactions in diabetic patients due to poly-pharmacy. Vast information on Drug Interactions and ADRs observed in various clinical trials were shared in a simple and interactive way.

College of Pharmacy at GMU hosts Seminar on Diabetes Complication - Prevention and Management Dr. Balan Vijay Kumar a leading psychiatrist from Al Soor Clinic, Sharjah, summarized the important considerations to be noted while counseling a diabetic patient on disease control and self-care. He clearly explained various factors to be taken into consideration while counseling a diabetic patient.

GMC Hospitals, UAE celebrate International Nurses Day, 2013 Recently, the GMC Hospitals in U.A.E. celebrated International Nurses Day 2013.  The theme that  International Council of Nurses chose for this year’s event was  ‘Closing the Gap : The Millennium Development Goals : 8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1.  This slogan is intended to be a countdown to 2015 with an emphasis on the health related goals.  GMC Hospitals, UAE celebrate International Nurses Day, 2013 On the eve of the International Nurses Day celebrations, 2103 GMC Hospitals celebrated the grand event in three segments.  In the first segment, the nurses were administered with a professional oath during the Lamp Lighting Ceremony which was graced by Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost of the Gulf Medical University.  Later, in the second segment the Nursing Department in association with Health Communication Division organized a Continuing Nursing Education Program on ‘Vision, Innovation and Implementation in Nursing Practice.  Medical experts deliberated on various topics related to the event.  Dr. Kavita Bhalekar – NMC Hospital, Dubai spoke on the “Scope and Benefits of Nursing Informatics”.  Dr. Meenu Cherian, Academic Director, GMC Hospital, Ajman emphasized on the “Importance of CME in Nursing”.   Ms. Abhi Thomas Ayoor, Department of Nursing, GMC hospital spoke on the topic of “The Future Role of Nursing in Health Promotion”.   Prof. Jayadevan Sreedharan, Assistant Director – Center for Advanced Biomedical Research and Innovation, GMU lectured in detail on “The Research Methodology for Nurses”.GMC Hospitals, UAE celebrate International Nurses Day, 2013 Around 100 nurses from all over U.A.E. participated in the event which was accredited by MoH for 6 CME hours.

The Chief Guest of the gala event was Dr. Manvir Singh Walia, Medical Director of GMC Hospital.   Prof. Gita Ashok Raj and Dr. Prashant Hegde felicitated the nurses with awards for the Best Ward, Best Unit Incharge, Best Unit Nurses, Best Care Assistant and Best Medical Orderly Assistant.  The Best Nurse award was bagged by GMC Medical & Dental Specialty Centre, Sharjah while the Best Unit Nurse and Best Care Assistant Award was bagged by GMC Hospital, Fujairah. Chronic low back pain (LBP) is a major problem and economic burden to society. It is a multifactorial condition and has different biological, psychosocial, genetic, and lifestyle factors involved in its genesis said experts during the National Conference on Multi-disciplinary Approach to Management of Low Back Pain organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences Gulf Medical University on 31st May 2013 at the university campus in Ajman.National Conference on Multi-disciplinary Approach to Management of Low Back Pain organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University Over 250 professionals, physiotherapists, orthopedic surgeons, officials and members of various sports federations and clubs attended the conference. The conference was accredited by the Ministry of Health UAE for 6 CME Hrs.National Conference on Multi-disciplinary Approach to Management of Low Back Pain organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University Psycho-social factors such as fear of pain, catastrophization, fear avoidance, pain beliefs are related to genesis of chronic LBP and should be addressed appropriately. Lifestyle factors such as obesity, smoking, sedentary lifestyles have been linked to chronic Lower Back Pain, said Abduladheem Kamkar, Manipulative Physiotherapist, Head of Physiotherapy Section, Dubai Police Health Center, and the owner of  Dr. Kamkar Medical and Physiotherapy Center. He also highlighted on the physical and psycho social disturbances in the low back pain especially at the productive age.National Conference on Multi-disciplinary Approach to Management of Low Back Pain organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University Prof. Abdel Karim Msaddi, Medical Director, Neuro Spinal Hospital  discussed about the recent advancements in the Minimal Invasive Spine Surgery techniques for the management of Low Back Pain.

Low Back Pain is essentially subjective, and a greater awareness of the need for taking pain seriously is growing among the public at large. Chronic Low Back Pain, used to be something many patients simply had to learn to “live” with. In recent years, studies have learned a great deal about pain and its physiological basis, leading to pain management that can provide complete or partial pain relief. There are various types of health practitioners that care for patients with Lower Back Pain, and each has a different role. While it is common to start off with an Orthopedician, if the patient’s back pain is resistant to initial treatment, then the services of a Spine Specialist in surgery may be necessary said Dr. Mohammad Kamel Elsayed Ibrahim, Specialist Orthopedician, Gulf Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Ajman.National Conference on Multi-disciplinary Approach to Management of Low Back Pain organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University Dr, Vilas Kanikdaley, Specialist Radiologist, GMC Hospital, Fujairah delivered a lecture on the importance of Medical Imaging in accurate diagnosis of Low Back Pain and in the identification of its pathology. He also presented with the advancements in imaging technologies of spine. National Conference on Multi-disciplinary Approach to Management of Low Back Pain organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University Dr. Muhammad Al Jarrah, Head – Physiotherapy, Fatima College of Health Sciences, Abu Dhabi spoke on principles involved in the designing of Physiotherapy protocols  for the management Low Back Pain. During this session, Dr Jarrah spoke about the various techniques applied in the clinical management and preventive set ups to treat and prevent complications arising from Lower Back Pain. He also emphasized on the importance and role of applied ergonomics at worksites.National Conference on Multi-disciplinary Approach to Management of Low Back Pain organized by the College of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University Dr. Ezzat Moghazy, Head of Physiotherapy, Saudi German Hospital demonstrated the application of “Kinesio Taping for Low Back Pain”, which is a recent technique in the field of Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine.

Mr. Praveen Kumar, Associate Dean, College of Allied Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University  presented the recent research advancements in Physiotherapy for Low Back Pain and concluded the conference with his presentation on ‘Importance of Clinical Practice Through  Evidence Based Approach’.

College of Allied Health Sciences, GMU has been in the forefront in offering Bachelors Program in Physiotherapy over the last 13 years. The college has received an initial approval from the CAA to launch Masters in Physical Therapy Program from November, 2013.
